About Qameo Technology
Qameo was created to solve three problems:
The team that developed Qameo has spent years in the entertainment industry, developing software systems that manage the distribution of everything from feature films to commercials over cable and satellite networks. They realized that the Internet provides a way for consumers worldwide to access both information and entertainment. But sending a digital version of a feature film over the Internet, even with a broadband connection, is like emptying a gallon jug through a pinhole - it can be done, but it takes a long time. The conventional solution has been "streaming" - sending a highly compressed file that is displayed on the user's monitor in a small window, usually with fuzzy or jerky images and poor sound quality. Broadband for High Quality Qameo was engineered to deliver large files reliably and automatically, producing TV-quality images and top-quality sound. How? You may have heard the old joke about the salesman who tells the customer, "You can have it fast, good or cheap - pick any two." At Qameo, we decided to sacrifice speed in favor of quality and affordability. We can't deliver a DVD-quality feature film to your PC instantly. But if you are willing to select a program today and view it tomorrow, Qameo is for you! More than half of homes today are connected to the Internet via DSL or cable TV "broadband" connections. The typical user accesses the Web for perhaps an hour or two per day to check e-mail, visit some Websites, and so on. For much of the day and all night, that high speed Web connection is idle. Using Idle Capacity Qameo makes use of that idle capacity. When you are not using your PC or surfing the Web, Qameo gets busy downloading the movie, music or other file you have selected. Your file is transferred in small pieces, which Qameo stores on your hard drive, carefully keeping track of each segment. As soon as you start using your PC, Qameo instantly and automatically halts the transfer. A touch of the mouse or keyboard is all it takes to "tell" Qameo to wait. Later, when your PC is again idle, Qameo goes back to work, retrieving more of the file automatically. Honoring Creative Rights In digital form, a motion picture may be hundreds of megabytes. Only Qameo can transfer files of that size reliably. We do it all while your PC is not busy doing other work for you, and we do it with full respect for the rights of the creative people who have produced the programming we all enjoy! Qameo offers several layers of security. Our software is protected against impersonation by digital certificate. Data on our network is encrypted. Qameo's advanced security features allow content providers to distribute digital versions of their films, videos and other programs without fear of piracy. Playback requires communication with a Qameo server each time the distributed product is accessed. This permits excellent management of licenses, royalties and use tracking.
